Grants Pass is known for its motto, “It’s
the Climate.” The climate is mild with four
distinct seasons. The annual precipitation is 29.5
inches with a very gentle wind velocity, averaging
only 3.2 mph. Snowfall is approximately 2.3 inches
per year.
The elevation of Grants Pass is 935 feet, with the
spectacular Rogue River running through it. Grants
Pass is surrounded by the tree covered mountains
of the Cascade, Siskiyou and coast mountain ranges.

in Josephine County. It is approximately 60 miles

Community spirit and
community involvement are apparent in Grants Pass.
There are many annual events which are widely supported
by the community. The annual Boatnik Race is a 35-mile
white-water hydroboat race down the Rogue River and
back. Horse racing is a popular event in the summer
at Grants Pass Downs. In August the old-fashioned
Josephine County Fair has baking, craft and hobby
contests along with livestock auctions, entertainment,
carnival rides and more. For more than 16 years,
the Back-to-the-Fifties Classic Car Show has come
to Grants Pass in July. The Wild Rogue Balloon Festival
is also an annual summer event that everyone enjoys.
The history and the structures in Grants Pass date
back to the 1800s. The Downtown Historic District
is famous for more than 50 antique and eclectic shops.
First Friday Art Night is a fun event with live music
and art held every month during the summer. The “Bears
of Summer” is the friendliest public outdoor
event in Grants Pass. Local artists paint and decorate
larger-than-life bear sculptures that line the streets
of the Historic District. When the bears go into
hibernation, the 18 gigantic Magical Musical Christmas
Murals are displayed in the Historic District.
For the outdoor enthusiast, Grants Pass is the perfect
place to live or visit. There are a total of 21 city
parks, the Caveman Pool and the Grants Pass Skatepark.
The Rogue River offers world-renowned fishing, rafting,
kayaking, jet boat trips, swimming, or just relaxing
and viewing the scenic beauty and abundant wildlife.
Other great outdoor activities include hiking, walking,
biking and golfing. From mid-March through Thanksgiving,
the open-air "Grower's Market" offers local
vegetables, berries, fruits, herbs, baked goods and
handmade crafts. With all of these activities, Grants
Pass truly has something for everyone. |
