Nestled in the beautiful foothills
of the Siskiyou Mountains lies the city of Jacksonville,
which is easily accessible from Interstate 5. Jacksonville
is less than 30 miles from the California-Oregon
border and sits 5 miles west of Medford on the Jacksonville
Highway.
Jacksonville has been hailed as one of the most
historically significant communities in the western
United States. In 1966, the entire town of Jacksonville
was designated a National Historic Landmark by the
U.S. Department of Interior and in 2001, was named
one of the 12 Distinctive Destinations in the United
States. There are more than 80 buildings in Jacksonville
which are on the National Register of Historic Places.
Some date back to the Gold Rush era of the 1850s.
Jacksonville is a fun and captivating town right
out of the old west. However, Jacksonville is also
a robust and energetic community that offers a wide
variety of shopping, dining and recreation. While
in Jacksonville, make sure to take in a concert at
the Britt Festival, a grassy open-air amphitheater
which hosts a series of concerts throughout the summer.
Touring the local wineries, art galleries, museums,
parks, historical buildings and even the historic
Jacksonville Cemetery are all fun things to do while
in Jacksonville. |
